SEL & Wellbeing Coaching
Here are some top FAQ's to help sort out the mystery of SEL
SEL includes the skills that help children and teens understand themselves, connect with others, and navigate the world with confidence.
Social-emotional learning, or SEL, is the process of developing the skills we use to understand our emotions, manage challenges, build relationships, make thoughtful decisions, and move through the world with a sense of confidence and belonging.
But SEL is about much more than learning to “manage feelings.”
It is about helping a child understand: Who am I? What do I need? What am I good at? What can I do when things feel hard? How do I connect with other people? And how can I become the person I want to be?
These are lifelong skills. And like reading, playing an instrument, or developing an athletic skill, they can be learned, practiced, strengthened, and refined.
SEL is not a diagnosis
I do not provide clinical diagnoses for mental health disorders. Please consult your local resources for clinical mental health services.
SEL, Reimagined
I approach SEL from a strengths-based, whole-child perspective. Rather than beginning with what a child is struggling with, we begin by understanding the child by exploring their personality, strengths, interests, relationships, challenges, and the ways they naturally learn and grow.
From there, we build practical skills in areas such as:
Self-awareness — recognizing emotions, strengths, needs, values, and patterns
Emotional regulation — understanding what happens when emotions become big and developing strategies to navigate them
Resilience — learning how to recover, adapt, and keep going when things don't go as planned
Self-efficacy — developing the belief that I can figure things out, even when something is difficult
Executive functioning — strengthening organization, planning, flexibility, initiation, attention, and problem-solving
Social confidence — navigating friendships, communication, boundaries, conflict, and perspective-taking
Self-advocacy — helping children understand what they need and communicate those needs effectively
Positive identity and belonging — developing a genuine sense of “I know who I am, I know what I bring, and I have a place here.”
Why It Matters
Children are constantly being asked to navigate increasingly complex worlds. They are learning academics while also learning how to manage disappointment, handle uncertainty, recover from mistakes, navigate friendships, advocate for themselves, and understand who they are becoming. They are navigating competitive spaces from a very early age, and this can be very tough to manage.
Sometimes a child has all the intellectual ability in the world but doesn't yet have the emotional or executive tools to access it consistently.
That is where intentional SEL coaching can make a meaningful difference.
Through individualized coaching, children have the opportunity to slow down, reflect, experiment with new strategies, and experience success in a supportive environment. The goal isn't perfection. It is progress, confidence, and greater ownership of their own growth.
Small Joys. Huge Growth.
